Q&A For Tithes and Offerings at Ephesus Church

What is tithe?
Tithe is 10 percent of what God has blessed us with. Returning the tithe to God demonstrates our faith in and partnership with our Creator and Redeemer. (Hebrews 7:2; Genesis 28:22)

What are offerings?
Offerings are expressions of gratitude, beyond tithe, that we choose to give. (Deuteronomy 16:17)

Why should I return tithe and give offerings?
We return tithe and give offerings because God asks us to. It is our acknowledgment that everything is God's and that we are His stewards. God also says He will bless abundantly when we give out of thankfulness and love for Him. (Malachi 3:10-12, Psalm 24:1, Psalm 8:6, Deuteronomy 16:10, 11.)

What happens to the tithe I return?
All tithe received by Ephesus SDA Church is sent to the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists where it is distributed according to church policy.

Am I supporting the Local Church if I do not give to combined Budget?
No! Only funds contributed to Combined Budget are used to meet the regular operational and ministerial needs of Ephesus Church.

What happens to my "World Church" offerings?
World Church offerings are sent to the General Conference office for use around the world.

What happens to “local combined budget” offerings?
Ephesus Church in business session approves an annual budget to fund the operation of the church and support its many outreach programs and ministries. Fixed expenses include salaries of support staff; operating subsidies for our constituent Christian school --R. T. Hudson School. In addition, the combined budget funds community services; evangelism; mission and ministry projects; supplies, resources, and periodicals; and pays for the utilities, supplies, maintenance, and other operational expenses involved in maintaining the operation of a growing congregation.

What is the difference between “Conference Trust Funds” and “Local Church Offerings?”
Conference Trust Funds are funds collected by the local Church on behalf of the Northeastern Conference. Each month, the local Church remits to the conference these funds for use in the ministry of the world. Tithe, Sabbath School Missions and Ingathering are some of the items included in these funds.
Local Church Offerings are free-will gifts that are used for local Church operations and work within the community. Members are encouraged to develop a personal systematic giving plan that allows for support of the local church.
